NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to recognise the history, culture and achievements
of the oldest, continuous living culture on earth- the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
With national NAIDOC Week celebrations scheduled to take place during the Term 2 break, the
school has elected to acknowledge its significance during the last week of term.
This years' theme is 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud'. One of our parents, Tara Rex,
created a fire pit with woven stones and LED lights in the library, which our students have enjoyed
warming their hands by during the week, as staff read stories with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
themes. On Tuesday, many students and staff wore a range of attire featuring Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander artwork on AFL guernseys, clothing from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brands,
or garments with designs or simply the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. All
gold coin donations received on the day was forwarded to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to
support the work they do in the community.
