                Year 3 SERCUL Incursion
On Wednesday 10 September, our Year 3 students took part in a fascinating incursion run by SERCUL (South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare) all about macroinvertebrates and their importance in our waterways.
Students learned how these tiny creatures play a vital role in keeping our rivers and wetlands healthy. They discovered that scientists use macroinvertebrates to measure water quality, since different species can tell us if a waterway is clean or polluted.
The sessions gave students a chance to build their scientific skills. They worked on observing, collecting samples, classifying, and identifying different macroinvertebrates. A highlight of the day was using microscopes to look closely at the amazing features of these small creatures.
The incursion was hands-on, engaging, and very enjoyable. Students came away with a deeper understanding of our local environment and an appreciation for the role we all play in protecting it.
