Flag Roadshow

Last Thursday, the Speaker of the House in Federal parliament, Mr Milton Dick, accompanied by Mr Patrick Gorman, MHR for Perth, came to the school to speak with our Year 6 students as part of the 'Flag Roadshow'. As part of the overall experience, the Speaker brought with him one of the enormous flags that flies above Parliament House in Canberra.

As part of the 'Roadshow', the Speaker travels the depth and breadth of Australia to discuss with school children the importance of the Australian flag and how it came into being in 1901 through a nationwide competition to celebrate the federation of Australia. The competition attracted 32 823 entries with five almost identical entries sharing the £200 (2015: $29,142.12) prize money - including two school aged children.

It was a most memorable experience for our students.
