Kings Park Excursion

On Thursday, October 22, the Year 4s went on an excursion to the Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park.

Students participated in an activity led by the Kings Park education team to discover the producers, consumers and decomposers of the Kings Park Kooyar Kep and their roles within the freshwater wetland ecosystem. They went pond dipping for macro-invertebrates, used identification keys and recorded findings to understand how they interact within the wetland. The Year 4s enjoyed learning about the life cycles of various aquatic insects, identifying different species of macroinvertebrates and observing the biodiversity of a freshwater wetland ecosystem.

Students also had the opportunity to explore the Naturescape area within their classes and to connect with the environment through discovery and play. It was a wonderful day of climbing, wading, observing and investigating.
